During the winterdays I am craving for all these lovely winter goods it has to offer. Chunky knits, warm feet, blankets, candles, hot drinks and of course these delicious winter spices such as cinnamon! Once I smell cinnamon I immediately want an big cup of tea of hot chocolate, a soft blanket, a nice couch and then curl myself up all day in front of the television, or with a nice novel.
So yesterday when it was rainy all day I felt like cinnamon. Eating it off a spoon is not something I like to do so after going some recipes I decided to experiment on something I thought of myself.
I first started to make the crispy apple. Wich is very simple. Preheat the oven on 100 degrees, and slice the apple (preferably very sweet ones) in very thin slices. I mostly us a cheese slicer because it is quick. I put the slices on a baking sheet and richly cover them with cinnamon. Just put it in the oven to dry and they will be ready in aprox. 1 hour. It depends on how thick your slices are. Once this is done you can start on your cupcakes. I just made a simple cake mix, which you can easily buy at any grocery shop, I added some tiny apple pieces, cinnamon and that’s it.
Wait until your appleslices are done in the oven, then heat the oven to 160 degrees. Put in your cupcakes for half an hour. Stick the end of a small spoon or fork in one of the cupcakes to see if they are ready. If it comes out clean, they are perfect!
Wait until they cooled down to room temperature. A little warmer is ok, just make sure your icing does not melt because of the heat.
Top the cupcakes with some icing and sprinkle some of the crispy apple on top of it. Enjoy!
